Project Management & Superintendent Services
The Wheeler Centre was created as part of the Victorian State Government initiative to have Melbourne designated a UNESCO City of Literature.
The project involved the refurbishment and re-purposing of the south east wing of the State Library, a building of great architectural and cultural significance. Major structural intervention was required to provide access and entry stairs to the building and a new goods lift was constructed against the Little Lonsdale Street facade.
Construction was conducted in an extremely sensitive environment with dust, noise and vibration controlled within strict limits to protect the public and the collections and operation of the Library.
The project was awarded in 2011 by the Master Builders Association (MBA) for ‘Excellence in Construction of Commercial Buildings $10m to $12.5m’.
